Camel with Egyptian Rider Figure
Date: c.1897
Created: Egypt
Medium: painted metal
Dimensions: 9.5 x 8.75 cm

This small-scale Egyptian figurine of a camel with rider was acquired in Egypt during the Harris’ world trip. Milly Harris’ diary entry from March 1898, quoted below, reveals her enjoyment of riding a camel.

“On our return we mounted camels and rode back to the Pyramids.  My camel was 6 years old and was not uncomfortable to ride.  I trotted but that shook me up, I thought the camel a much maligned animal!”
