This jar is part of an artistic movement in Japan known as Kutani ware. This style of pottery came from Kutani, know part of Kaga Ishikawa, during the Meiji Era (1868-1912). Kutani pottery often depicts nature or people and normally comes in five colours: red, yellow, green, purple, and blue.

This piece has been identified as Kutani akae technique and is decorated with fine linework and images of flowers.
