Silver overlay on glass has been used since the 1870s with a large amount of production happening in Europe and North America in the 1890s-1920s. Often, the silver was applied as one piece. This vase has openwork and is typical in its undulating and sinuous movement typical to the Art Nouveau movement. The piece is one of several vases in the Eldon House collection.
