Document stand in the Eldon House Library

Country of Origin: Canada
Year: ca. 1870s
Materials: Wood

This piece is a document folder. It was used by the Harris men for their work. Unlike the document box which could contain smaller flat, papers this stand was meant to hold large rolled pieces of paper. The early generations of Harris men were involved in hydrography (the study of waterway maps), and real estate law. There would have been a number of maps in the house, and this stand was meant to keep everything organized. It was also portable, and could be transported between work and home, or further on quite easily.
