India Tapestries

A large blue tapestry with image of a person in a pagoda and another group sitting playing a sitar. They are surrounded by foliage.
Tapestry from the Eldon House collection

Country of Origin: India
Year: ca. 1897
Materials: Cotton and dye

The Harris Family purchased various items in the Indian subcontinent, but very few textiles. This piece is a wall tapestry. There are six parts to the item, and it depicts a royal person being attended to. The colours are very vibrant, and as it is printed on a fine cotton, the colours are meant to stand out.
